Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu is referred to as the City of Temples and the Gateway to Kashmir. True to its moniker, you’ll find numerous Hindu and Buddhist holy sites, like the Vaishno Devi Mandir, a shrine in the Trikuta Mountains that millions of pilgrims visit every year. It’s also the home of the Patnitop hill area, a celebrated attraction that tourists visit to admire and get lost in the grandeur of its lush landscapes. In the city proper, you’ll find more temples, shrines, palaces, and museums that house artifacts, artworks, and documents that chronicle the history of the land.

On the other hand, Kashmir is where you’ll find the country’s summer capital, Srinagar, a city famous for the majestic Dal Lake, the picturesque and Persian-influenced Mughal Gardens, and the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. The town of Gulmarg can also be found in the region and it is famous for being one of the prime winter sports destinations in India that can rival Switzerland’s Interlaken and for having the second highest cable car ride in the world. Another popular area is the Pahalgam Valley where adventurers take a break from sightseeing to try out fun and chill experiences like learning to ride ponies, playing golf, and strolling around the Baisaran Meadows.

These are ideal destinations in India for travelers looking to go on spiritual journeys, bask in the resplendence of the country’s natural treasures, or partake in exhilarating activities that families and friends can enjoy.
