In the mid-20th century, when drilling for hot water at Husavikurhofoi uncovered an unexpected source—hot seawater rich in minerals, not ideal for heating houses—local ingenuity came into play.
Instead of letting this precious resource go to waste, an old cheese barrel was ingeniously repurposed at Husavikurhofoi. The barrel provided a space for Husavik residents to immerse themselves in the health benefits of bathing in this hot seawater. The water, maintained at a therapeutic temperature of 38°–39°C, has brought relief to individuals dealing with skin conditions like psoriasis, offering them a natural remedy amid the stunning landscapes of Husavik.
